DESCRIPTION: Original handcolored pochoir-process lithographed poster by Ernest Montaut commemorating the first crossing of the English Channel by a heavier-than-air aircraft in July 1909 by French aviator and engineer Louis Charles Joseph Blériot. The flight lasted less than 37 minutes. Bleriot won a prize of £1,000 for his achievement from the Daily Mail newspaper. Very good condition.

The 'pochoir' process used to color the lithograph is defined as: "French for 'stencil', used of prints coloured by hand with the help of stencils to mask out the areas where each colour is not required". (Gascoigne, Bamber. "How to Identify Prints. Thames and Hudson, 1991. Page 206. )
