DESCRIPTION: Rare, small view of Plymouth, England with the Catwater from 1676 by Czech etcher Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677). From a series by Hollar titled "Divers Views after the Life." No record of any sale in AMPR; none online for sale. Signed within as "W. Hollar fecit 1676".
Hollar published his first book of etchings in 1635 in Cologne when Hollar was twenty-eight. Hollar was in London during the Great Fire of 1666, and remains most famous for his scenes of the city before and after the fire.
