DESCRIPTION: Scarce map of "Iles de Ponghou", the Penghu Islands (or Pescadores) in the Taiwan Strait off the east coast of Taiwan. After a map from 1721 by Father de Mailla, a Jesuit priest. Father de Mailla's maps were published in volume 18 of Lettres edifantes, which dealt with the missions of the Jesuits on both hemispheres.
Based on the volume and page collation numbers this antique map is believed to be from the Toulouse edition of Lettres edifantes printed in 1810.
