DESCRIPTION: A highly detailed, elegant, antique copperplate chart / map produced by Ambroise Tardieu (1788-1841) for Dumas' multi-volume "Precis Des Evenemens Militaires". The chart shows the positions of French, Spanish, and British ships during the battle of Algeciras set against a highly detailed hydrographic and topographic background. Careful and meticulous hachuring conveys elevation. Inset legend at bottom right explains labeled positions of ships including "le formidable vaisseaux General Francais" and "Chaloupes canonieres Espagnoles".
Notation in upper right border: "Campagne de 1802. Tome 1.".
