DESCRIPTION: Early blueprint (cyanotype) map of the San Juan Islands including Stuart Island, Waldron Island, Orcas Island, Shaw Island, Blakely Island, Lopez Island, San Juan Island and many more. Numerous water features include the Canal de Haro, San Juan Channel, President Channel, Rosario Strait, Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Thatcher Passage. Manuscript notations in red for several parcels of land on Orcas Island and Lopez Island.

Scarce. With detached fragmentary front cover of map. Price when issued 50 cents.

Coverage extends from the proposed Outer Harbor Line to west Spokane Street and then south of Whatcom Avenue. Harbor Island is an artificial island in the mouth of the Duwamish River. When Harbor Island was completed in 1909 it was the largest (350 acres) artificial island in the world. <br></br> Includes two 750 foot wide slips and numerous tracks for the railways. At least 4 slips for ferry boats are shown just inside the inner harbor line. <br></br> The map fronts on Elliott Bay and includes features of the Duwamish East Waterway, Duwamish West Waterway, Harbor island, and the northern portion of the West Industrial District. <br></br> By Virgil G. The map was commissioned, copyrighted, and published in 1944 by George L. Clark, Inc., "A complete real estate institution", 142 Avenue "U" Brooklyn, N.Y. <br><br> Rare. Only two copies recorded in WorldCat. <br><br> This historical map of Flatlands encompasses the area of Canarsie, extending eastward from Ocean Avenue to Fresh Creek and northward from Jamaica Bay to Hunters Fly Road. The map provides a detailed representation of the region, showcasing the names of various property owners, as well as the locations of important landmarks such as dams, hotels, schools, shops, public buildings, cemeteries, and churches. Additionally, the map also features the route of the Brooklyn and Rockaway Branch Railroad, which played a significant role in the development and connectivity of the area. <br><br> George L. Clark, Inc., formerly Clark Realty Co., is a family real estate firm founded in 1870 that spans five generations of Clarks. John J. Clark began the family business on Long Island in 1870. His son, Patrick L. Clark, relocated the business to Brooklyn in 1907. George L. Clark Sr. joined the family business in 1919 and served the Brooklyn community as a Realtor for 67 years. Clark was active on many New York real estate organizations and was President of the Brooklyn Board of Realtors, the Bay Ridge Real Estate Board and the Flatbush Real Estate Board. <br><br>

The iconic "Muscle Shoals Sound," born in the city's legendary recording studios, has left an indelible mark on genres ranging from soul and R&B to rock and country. <br><br> But a century ago, Muscle Shoals was the epicenter of a different kind of boom - one fueled by grand industrial ambitions and the promise of a brighter future. <br><br> In the 1920s, automotive pioneer Henry Ford set his sights on transforming the sleepy Alabama town into a bustling metropolis to rival Detroit (1). The centerpiece of this vision was the Wilson Dam, a hydroelectric marvel that would provide cheap, abundant power to fuel the growth of industry. <br><br> Sensing an opportunity, New York City developers Howell and Graves began heavily promoting Muscle Shoals as the "City of Unlimited Opportunity." This advertising brochure, circa 1925, with a rare birds-eye view map showcases their grand plans. The map, which stretches from Seven Mile Island to the Wilson Dam, depicts a thriving industrial landscape, with the Tennessee River winding majestically in the background. <br><br> At the time, nitrate plants were the region's biggest employers, and the promise of readily available electricity was expected to lure even more manufacturers to the area. Howell and Graves themselves invested heavily in the city's future, constructing the first City Hall, homes, and the Howell and Graves Jr. High School, which still stands today as a Board of Education building. <br><br> However, the grand vision for Muscle Shoals was not to be. Much of the infrastructure built by Howell and Graves went unused as the Great Depression stifled the city's growth. The promised industrial boom never materialized, and Muscle Shoals settled into a quieter existence. <br><br>
