DESCRIPTION: Increasingly scarce color lithographed bird's-eye view of Casco Bay, copyrighted 1906 by Geo. H. Walker & Co., Boston, with an illustrated Harpswell Steamboat Company cover advertising its "365 Island Route." The panoramic perspective looks inland across the island-filled bay toward Portland, the Maine countryside, Sebago Lake, and the distant White Mountains.
The view identifies islands, coastal settlements, hotels, forts, lighthouses, and steamboat landings. Features include Peaks Island, Great Chebeague Island, Great Diamond Island, Harpswell, Orr's Island, Bailey's Island, Portland Head Light, and Casco Castle. Black lines trace steamboat connections across the bay, while prominent red railroad routes connect the mainland communities. Small vessels, wooded islands, and clusters of waterfront buildings give the map the character of an illustrated excursion guide.
The accompanying cover promotes the company's "Favorite Excursion Out of Portland" and depicts the steamer Machigonne, a coastal scene, and a monument. It names Geo. F. West as president and E. L. Jordan as general manager, with departures from Portland Pier. Together, map and cover document the marketing of Casco Bay's islands as accessible summer destinations during the early twentieth-century steamboat era.
