DESCRIPTION: Original mining engineering blueprint dated May 1901, showing the workings of the Black Hills Copper Company at Deadwood, South Dakota. A plan and accompanying section record the arrangement of underground workings and their relationship to the surface and mineral vein. Shafts, branching passages, survey bearings, and geological features are shown at a scale of 1 inch to 100 feet.
Prepared during the development of mining in the Black Hills, the drawing documents the practical surveying and engineering work behind copper exploration in a district better known for gold. The blueprint bears the credit of H. S. Vincent, U.S. Deputy Mineral Surveyor, Denver, Colorado.
