The Connecticut River bisects the map. This 1913 Second Edition map is annotated in manuscript with colors reflecting local geological features including granite, sand, gneiss, trap and hornblende schist, described below the map in a manuscript hand-colored index. Contour interval is 20 feet. Scale 2.5 inches = one mile. The base map, described below, is credited to James Walter Goldthwait (1) and was drawn by R. E. Pritchard. <br><br> Similar to a copy from January 1913 in the library at Dartmouth. This November, 1913 edition is updated with a significant amount of new topographic detail that was lacking in the edition of January, 1913 found at the Dartmouth Library (2). <br><br> <div class="indenttextblocksingle"> "The map is based upon the Hanover and Strafford Quadrangles of the U.S. Geological Survey. Incorporated into it are detailed stadia-survey maps of the districts near Hanover Village and the Reservoir by members of Thayer School of Civil Engineering. The topography of the eastern part of the region was done by J.W. Goldthwait and R.W. Tobey in 1911 - 1912." Title description. </div> <br><br> (1) James Walter Goldthwait (1880-1947) was Dartmouth College, Geology Professor and Curator of the Dartmouth College Museum from 1912 to 1928. Hanover, New Hampshire.
